ARM says that netbooks will own the computer business
Will netbooks own the computing market? ARM exec David East suggests netbooks will account for 90% of the computing market.
According to this report at PC Pro processor maker ARM reckons that netbooks could swallow up to 90% of the total PC market. ARM chief executive Warren East says that"Although netbooks are small today - maybe 10% of the PC market at most - we believe over the next several years that could completely change around and that could be 90% of the PC market. We see those products as an area for a lot of innovation and we want that innovation to be happening around the ARM architecture."
It's an interesting idea but to suggest that only 10% of people will use either a notebook or a desktop system seems a little far-fetched to me. In fact, East makes comments about Linux's increasing penetration and some other observations.
While I think it's true that netbooks will continue to carve out a larger market segment I can't see them becoming the dominant computing platform.
